JUDAISM is enjoying an unexpected revival, according to a special report to be published in this week’s Economist. The map and chart below show where the biggest Jewish populations live and how this has changed over the past century. In 1939, Jews numbered 16.5m people, up from 10.6m in 1900. By the end of the second world war, the Nazis had wiped out one-third of them, sweeping away a thousand years of Jewish civilisation in central and eastern Europe. The death toll might have been even higher, but a flurry of pogroms that started 60 years earlier across the then-tsarist empire had sent waves of Jewish emigrants westward. By the time Hitler struck, some 6m Jews were safe in North and South America and in Britain, with 3m more living in the Soviet Union. From 1948, most of the Jews of north Africa and the Levant emigrated. The break-up of the Soviet Union brought the latest big wave of Jewish migration to Israel in the early 1990s.

Partial facts are worse than lies. I am not writing for you, because logical and factual discussion may be lost on you, but to place a response in writing to your statements, so that an innocent reader will have a way to see, and maybe check for themselves. Wikipedia, Britannica are all good places to start.
Khazars were indeed a great kingdom at some point, and their leaders accepted Judaism at some point. However, the Jews of eastern europe descend from a relatively small group of German Jews migrating east. Their last names are often germanized, or bear the name of a town in germany. These are called Ashkenazi jews - Ashkenaz is Germany in Hebrew. The founder population was small, and this lead to many genetic conditions ony present in the Ashkenazi Jewish population. Tay-Zachs disease, Neimann-Pick, and familial dystonia are just some conditions caused by a small founder population and genetic isolation.
Regarding viewing the land of Israel as homeland by the Jews of Spain - you probably read of the greatest of the Sephardic (spanish) Jews - Maimonides who is buried in Tiberias, though he worked as a physician in the court of Egypt. Jews from Spain indeed settled in the land of Israel - Palestine, after the exile. Many died out over the following centuries. However, some of those living in Palestine created some of the most important jewish religious books. Most of them lived in Safed and Tiberias, both holy cities in Judaism. Joseph Karo wrote the Shulhan Aruch there in the 16th century - the most conprehensive collection and commentary on Jewsih religious law to this day.
Palestine over the centries was a poor hinterland, suffering from frequent wars (even after the crusades and after the Turkish invasion). The population was not large, and cities like Tberias and Safed were devastated by earthquakes in the 19th century, as well as by diseases.
Reading the Wikipedia pages on those cities is edifying.
Ultimately, gfromaz, you will not be convinced now, but maybe one day you will visit Israel, and maybe one day you will change your mind.
Because for peace, you do not need to build an elaborate system of denying that the other side has rights. You simply need to want peace, and love life.

Apparently the settlers in the West Bank were counted as living in Israel.
although the land they occupy is not formally part of the Israeli state both abroad as also by israeli law, they are citizens of the state so they are counted as "jews in Israel".
More Jews lived in 'Palestine' at the turn of the century than did Arabs.This is not reflected in the graph.
Really?! Where did you read that? There was minor Jewish presence in Palestine from the end of the Roman era until well into the 20th century. Show us where in Jewish history the Ottoman invasion of the 16th century is mentioned.
Palestinians were called that by the Romans as well as the invading Turks.
Palestinians have actually had a longer presence in that land than Jews have.

You are right about relatively small numbers of jews in Palestine around 1900. However you are misinformed on other topics. The Romans renamed the province of Judea Palestina after the philistines, following the bar Kochba revolt. There were no "Palestinians" at the time. before the Muslim conquest the locals were Jews, Arameans, Samaritans, Moabitans, Nabateans etc. The Arabs living under Turkish rule did not call themselves Palestinians. There was no separate province of Palestine under the Turks (Assad Senior even claimed the Palestine has to be under Syrian rule). Actually, even in 1937 the leaders of the Arab revolt tended to emphasize the Arab identity. As late as the 1960s the Arab narrative emphasized Pan-Arabism. This did not work well, but was not replaced with cohesive national identities. Look at the Arab world over the past generation - the national identities of Iraq, Lebanon, Syria etc are splintered by ethnic and religious lines to the point of warfare. In Palestine the uniting glue of Palestinian identity is the war against the Jews.
Dear 'The rational', so what's in a name? Fact is Palestinians are Arab - at least most of them and Arabs were one of the early Semitic tribes. The Turks indeed called the land they invaded Palestine and the people Palestinian, a name that can be traced to Roman times. Where the Romans obtained the name is of little importance. Why are American Indians called 'Indians'? When Herzl founded Zionism in 1899 he said "a land without people, people without a land". Why did he say that? No Jews there is the reason why. About 10 or so years ago the Israeli govt used DNA testing to try to establish the lineage of the rabbinical Cohens but failed to connect Israelis to ancient Jews. They did however find a DNA connection between modern Jews and the Khazars and the Kurds. In any event, the Palestinians (Arabs if you will) occupied that land, living under the rule of the Ottoman Turks for 400 years before the Turks were driven out as a result of WW1, only to find the British gave away some of their land under the The Balfour Declaration – which the British had no right to do. Balfour, btw, agreed to allow an all Jewish regiment to occupy parts of Palestine, a regiment headed by a Polish Jew named David Green. After the Turks withdrew, that regiment stayed in Palestine and became the seeds for the beginning of a European Jewish conquest. David Green changed his name to David Ben-Gurion and terrorism was introduced into the Middle East by the Stern Gang and the Irgun. In sum, the Palestinian Arabs are a conquered people who have a visceral connection to the land we now call Palestine and it should be no surprise they don’t accept that without a protest.
The goal of the invading Europeans was / is to return the borders of ancient Israel to Jews and to exclude all non-Jews, including Christians. You can read that in the Jewish Manifesto in Tel Aviv. Or just ask any of the ‘settlers’. The History Museum in Halifax, CA probably presents the most complete and accurate history on this subject that I have seen anywhere.

What rubbish this is! Just like any criticism of Israel is labeled anti-Semitic, effective at times, but reprehensible.
The Jewish/Khazar connection is well proven and just the smallest amount of inquiry on your part would show that to be true. However, there is nothing better than seeing real evidence and that can be done by a visit to the Viking museum on the island of Gotland in Sweden. There you will see first hand the artifacts taken by the Swedish Vikings from Khazar that proves a long and deep Jewish relationship. I first learned of the existence of the Khazars at university in a course taught by a wise and wonderful professor who happened to be Jewish. Too bad you didn't have that opportunity.
The Khazars were not a minor people and were the Vikings toughest foe. The Khazars at one point, raised an army of 50,000 men to join with the Magyar army and in earlier times an army of 40,000 men.

When the kingdom of the Khazars collapsed because of the pressure from the crusaders from the north and the Muslims from the south, along with the expansion of the Slavic tribes from the east, the Jewish/Khazar population scattered into what became eastern European and planted the seeds for the Jewish presence in later Poland, Russia, etc. You know, where all the Israeli leaders originated. Where did Netanyahu's family originate for example?
Norman Davies, the British historian and expert on Polish history has stated that 90% of all Jews in the world can trace their lineage back to then Poland, which at one point was the largest country in Europe. And those Jews can trace their lineage to Khazar.
Can you cite any significant history of the Jewish people in Palestine between the end of the Roman era and the 20th century. Where is it written that Jews were present in any significant numbers during the Ottoman invasion - just as an example. Why did Herzl say "a land without people, people without a land" when he founded Zionism in 1899? Was it because of the absence of Jews? And why, when the Jews were expelled from Spain by the Christian Spanish, they never migrated to Palestine instead to countries like Turkey with a largely Muslim population. Could it be they didn't view Palestine as a homeland.
To answer your statement about the PA prohibiting the sale of land to Jews that can be summed up in one word, survival. What do you suppose would happen if a settler sold his land (stolen at that) to a Palestinian? How long after do you think he would live?
There is indeed a Jewish manifesto that clearly states the goals of the invading European Jews in expelling the Arabs, and in the words of Ben-Gurion, "so they shall not return". It also refers to the return of the lands of biblical Israel (whatever that was) to exclusively Jews.
I'm not a "Jew-hater", in fact quite the opposite, the contribution by Jews in so many areas in modern times is quite remarkable, and the holocaust deniers should be sentenced to spent time at the infamous death camps so they can be set straight. However, all this does not excuse the Jewish subjugation of other people because of a spiritual connection.

Israel is now a fact of life and we can't continue to try to turn back the hands of time by saying it should be eliminated. But if Israeli policy doesn't change, if the settler movement isn't halted, then Israel will cease to exist over the next 50 years - and that would be regrettable. The rise in anti-Semitism around the world, even here is some parts of Asia, should be of great concern and it's really all in the hands of Israel leaders.

In the same year that Jewish children are shot for no crime, but being Jewish and antisemetic incidents are on the rise (violence and desecration of graveyards and synagogues).
Israel, the home of the Jews, is being threatened by Iran, who is developing nuclear weapons and a peace process that is dying because the other side is not even able to reconcile within.
Israeli tourists are targetted abroad (non combatant women, children) and the countries around are falling like dominos and so far giving way to a religious Muslim rule.

In 20 years from now I expect the above Jewish people's geographical distribution graph to reflect the following:
- The total number of Jews would be, at best, at their current levels. This is due to heavy assimilation process among US Jews.
- The distribution of world Jewry will be such, that vast majority of Jews will reside in Israel, also due to US Jewry speedy disappearance as a result of vast assimilation.
If more people like the Indians or the Chinese abandon their old faiths and embrace Judaism like the Khazars, there will not be enough Holy land for the promised returns for all the Jews.

About the Ashkenazi Jews=Khazars:
Until couple of decades ago, such a claim linking all Jewish Ashkenazi to the Khazars could have been made, just as easily as any other claim about the origin of Jews could have. There was room for variuous hypothesis which were left for estimations & assesments of scholars and hitorians, beliefs etc., but none could have been proved.
This was the case until genetic science became available, and could provide its detemined conclusions.
The clear, undisputed conclusion refutes the claims that the Jewish Ashkenazi people originate fro the converted Khazars, or any other convert community. The most that researches can confirm is that Khazar may count for 12% max. of Ashkenzi Jews.
A 1999 study by Hammer et al., published in the Proceedings of the United States National Academy of Sciences compared the Y chromosomes of Ashkenazi, Roman, North African, Kurdish, Near Eastern, Yemenite, and Ethiopian Jews with 16 non-Jewish groups from similar geographic locations. It found that "Despite their long-term residence in different countries and isolation from one another, most Jewish populations were not significantly different from one another at the genetic level... The results support the hypothesis that the paternal gene pools of Jewish communities from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East descended from a common Middle Eastern ancestral population, and suggest that most Jewish communities have remained relatively isolated from neighboring non-Jewish communities during and after the Diaspora."
According to Nicholas Wade "The results accord with Jewish history and tradition and refute theories like those holding that Jewish communities consist mostly of converts from other faiths, or that they are descended from the Khazars, a medieval Turkish tribe that adopted Judaism."
Concerning male-line ancestry, several Y-DNA studies have tested the hypothesis of Khazar ancestry amongst Ashkenazim. In these studies Haplogroup R1a chromosomes (sometimes called Eu 19) have been identified as potential evidence of one line of Eastern European ancestry amongst Ashkenazim, which could possibly be Khazar. One concluded that "neither the NRY haplogroup composition of the majority of Ashkenazi Jews nor the microsatellite haplotype composition of the R1a1 haplogroup within Ashkenazi Levites is consistent with a major Khazar or other European origin"
And there are many other researches confirming the linkage between ALL jewish communities going back 2500 years.

You know very litte and presume much. Israel is too small and weak to have any conspiracies on the world stage; it is just trying to survive and thrive. It is full of regular people who want to live, raise kids and have a career. This includes Jews and Arabs, and others. You also have a strange imaginary view of AIPAC. That organization does a very simple thing - it educates US elected officials about Israel, and supports a strong relationship between US and Israel as being in the US national interest. They have no actual power, and anyone can say whatever they want and talk to their representatives. And, guess what - everyone does. There are no seized Muslim territories. Most Muslims -- including most Arabic-speakers -- don't descend from Arabic conquerors of the VII century. They descend from natives who adopted the rulers' language and religion. Trust me, there weren't nearly enough Arabs in the VII century -- or today, for that matter -- to populate an area spanning from Morocco to Mesopotamia, replacing the natives living there. And I'm not even going to talk about Central and Southeast Asia, regions where the ethnicc distinctiveness vis-à-vis Arabic peoples couldn't be more obvious.

In the said verses: 2 Samuel 7:12-14 – we can read that God speaks of a coming offspring of David and not a literal "son of God" as what the religions preach.

Now we can see that the prophecy in 2 Sam7:12-14 about a coming descendant of David and not a son of God has been fulfilled.
Considering the prophecy in II Samuel 7:12-14 that if the descendant of David commits a wrong or an iniquity, he will be punished with the rod of men. Maestro Evangelista says Jesus was also punished by men. What is the proof?

It appears now that the Apostles-the writers of the New Testament who claimed that Jesus was sent by God to be beaten for our sins were hiding from us what really happened to Jesus.

Lets be clear, Jews did not 'migrate' in 1948 from the Levant countries, they were expelled. The number of Jewish refugees in 1948 was roughly equivalent to the number of Palestinian refugees. However Jewish refugees were absorbed by Israel and other countries and not left to fester like Palestinian refugees.
There are almost as many Palestinians in Arab refugee camps as are in the West Bank and Gaza. Arabs, despite all the rhetoric appear not want to grant their Palestinian brothers citizenship. This would fix a major portion of the problem.
In 21st century its a competition of ideas, philosophies, principles,religions, type of economy to be followed by individual, collective, national as well as international policies. Its no longer possible to impose anything. Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu preachers are propagating about respective religions. I am not sure about Jewish way. Of all the known religions, Judaism is one of the oldest religions but are presently 13.58 million followers as per and TE.Yes, someone may bring in the effect of holocaust and earlier Roman persecution. I wonder are they falling behind in competition?
Which competition was that?
It is prohibited in Judaism to invite non-Jews to join. Converts are accepted with caution and are encouraged to reconsider. Only the most insisting ones are accepted after lengthy process. This might answer your question, why the numbers do not grow.

There is something very strange about this article.
The article claims 16.5 million Jews in 1939, which is likely accurate, since the World Almanac claims 15.6 in 1934. But the World Almanac lists the worldwide Jewish population in 1946 at 15.7 million. In other words, a slight increase from 1934 to 1946.
At the time, the Almanac listed the US Jewish population at around 5 million, the same number the Economist article claims for today.
And let's not bother slandering the World Almanac; it had always had a good reputation for accuracy and freedom from bias or ideology. World Jewish websites have a tendency to trash anything they don't agree with, but any disagreement I have seen on these population statistics has always just been wild undocumented claims, presented with no evidence whatever, and blamed - like everything else - on anti-Semitism.
The Economist tells us the worldwide Jewish population declined from about 16 million in 1946 to about 13 million today, but there are no independent or unbiased census polls that document or justify the Economist's population statements. These are just bald claims, with no basis or evidence.
Also, for decades, the US Jewish associations 'forbade' the US government and census bureau to distinguish Jews from their national passports, which means they could be identified only as Russian or Ukranian or German, but not as Jews.
The US census was forbidden by the US Jewish associations from asking or collecting any information about Jews as Jews. In fact, during the migration in the 1940s, violent arguments erupted between these associations and the US government, and the government lost.
They were finally 'permitted' to record only nation of origin, their Jewish heritage kept secret from all but the associations.
It was only the New York kehilla that was permitted to record and know the actual number of Jews in the US, and it was beholden to nobody.
I don't know the purpose of deliberately, and badly, understating the world's Jewish populaition, but we must assume there is indeed a reason.

Most people identify Jews by religion, not nationality.
The reality is that Jews are a race. Whatever they tell you, they are not Caucasian White, they are actually the same race as Arabs. However, the members of their race also happen to be the same religion of Judaism.
Technically, a black person could convert to Judaism, but typically, a Jew is a race and a religion. However, many Jews don't really believe in anything, but their mafia like cliques are bound by race.

1. Most American Jews I know are not practicing the Judaic religion. If you ask them "what are you?" they will say Jewish.
2. In history, there have been many Jewish atheists. However, they still considered themselves Jewish.
3. A Semite is either an Arab or a Jew. Racially, they are the same. The only difference is that Jews intermarried, and still intermarry in large numbers with white people. Therefore, it is more difficult to tell them apart from actual white people.

"Semitic" is a language group. "Semites" are members of a group of Semitic-speaking peoples of the Near East and northern Africa, including the Arabs, Arameans, Babylonians, Carthaginians, Ethiopians, Hebrews, and Phoenicians.

Why don't you guys do some reading about this. There are two great books.
1. "Abraham's Children" by Jon Entine talks about Jewish DNA and answers a lot of these trivial questions. Arabs and Jews have not been the same thing for a long time.
2. "A History of the Jews" by Paul Johnson talks about the creation of the Jewish identity. It happened a long time ago-- Israeli/ Jew became two different things after the Assyrian conquest-- thousands of years ago.
